The Mohonk Mountain House Resort is so large that it deserves several blog pages to cover it all. This week we’ll start with Mohonk’s Victorian Parlor which is the setting of many Mohonk weddings (in addition to the resort’s Formal Gardens and Mountain View Gardens).
First a little history: the Mohonk Mountain House was first built in 1869 and has been declared a National Historic Landmark. It has hosted Presidents and foreign dignitaries; was the site of critical conferences to improve the lives of Native Americans and to strengthen international law; and, some say, was the inspiration for Stanley Kubrick’s take on “The Shining”.
Of all the spots where weddings can be staged within Mohonk, we think the past is felt the strongest in the Victorian Parlor. The rich red woods used throughout the room; the antique furnishings; the portraits and busts of notable guests; and a grand fireplace which can be lit for your ceremony are all ingredients that create a very special atmosphere. A perfect match for brides choosing a vintage theme for their wedding.
The space can also accommodate live musical talent to set the the mood for your classy Mohonk nuptials; the village of New Paltz, known for its arts scene, can provide local talent like the Bardavaon String Quartett seen below.
Ceremonies can take place at 12PM, 4PM, or 5 PM. The parlor can accommodate up to 200 guests and is sometimes used as a cover location in the event of rain for couples who’ve booked their ceremonies at Mohonk’s outdoor venues. According to Mohonk’s website, the current fee to use the Victorian Parlor is $850 (plus any applicable New York State tax). A final guest count must be provided to Mohonk’s planning staff two weeks before your event.
Mohonk offers a number of options for celebrating your marriage after you’ve said your “I do’s” at the Victorian Parlor. Next week we’ll be having a look at the Western Dining Room. See you then!
