The Senate Garage in Kingston’s historic Stockade District offers Brooklyn-esque industrial chic wedding space and a whole lot more.

Move over Brooklyn!  Ulster County is now home to one of the hippest industrial chic wedding venues you can find anywhere.  It’s got bricks.  It’s got girders.  It’s got vintage lighting.  And whole lot more.

Like a garden for your open air ceremony.  History too, so much that you’ve got a museum just a few steps away from your reception area.  An eclectic record store in the same building (just in case you want to spin your own tunes).

The Senate Garage is the recently opened event space in Kingston’s Stockade District on the corner of North Front Street & Fair. It occupies an old water filter factory that stands adjacent to the historic Senate House (where New York state was established in 1777) and the Senate House Museum.

Owners Don and Judy Tallerman (who also own the internet marketing company Dragonsearch, with offices right upstairs) hired a Woodstock designer to revamp the industrial space as an ultra cool venue for all sorts of events, especially weddings.

Here are some photos from our recent tour to help you get a sense of the space.

Entry Hall: The doors on North Front Street open to this corridor adorned with vintage lights and modern artwork.

Reception Area: At the end of the entry hall is this host stand where your guests can check in.  Off to the left side of this photo is a coat room and raised area that can be used for lounging or cocktails.

Lounge, cocktail area, or …? The open floor plan of the Senate Garage leaves it up to you to decide how best to use the space.

Around the corner from the entry hall and reception area is the bridal “getting ready” room, also known as “The Red Velvet Room”.  The curtains can be drawn to give the bride privacy, then dramatically pulled aside as she makes her first appearance before her guests.

Deeper inside the cavernous space:  girders, warm-toned vintage lighting, and reflective floors combine for a unique atmosphere.

Art hanging tracks allow couples to hang their own artwork for their weddings. The art seen here is by Susan Brown Woods who held an exhibition at the Senate Garage in April 2016.

This section of the Senate Garage is becoming popular as a staging area for bands, deejays, or any other live entertainment.

Tucked behind the band area is this little nook with plenty of cushions for hanging out and enjoying the music.

This open stretch of floor makes a great space for dancing or can be set up with dining tables. The windows look out onto the gardens of the Senate House and the Senate House Museum.

Green space:  Ceremonies can take place out here in good weather if couples wish to get married on site.  The reception too might spill out here.  That’s the Senate House Museum on the right.

It’s official — there’s more history here than you can shake a selfie stick at. This plaque on the wall of the Senate House says so.

A view of the Senate Garage from the garden.  Directly opposite is the entrance to the Senate House Museum, as pictured below.  On warm summer nights, the party lights strung from the trees provide romantic illumination.

The history buffs among your wedding guests might wander in here to check out the Senate House Museum’s three galleries.

The Senate Garage can accommodate up to 450 guests.  There is also a full prep kitchen downstairs where caterers can easily do their thing.  Audio-visual presentations are a snap too with a video projector and sound system available for use.

For your full wedding weekend extravaganza, the Senate Garage is in close proximity to popular bars and eateries, like the idiosyncratic Stockade Tavern (right across the street) .

As photographers, we really love the warm light, the textures, the sense of grandness about the place.  Also the way it combines industrial chic mentality with rustic American history.  Top that, Greenpoint!
